All Aboard - Here Comes Santa! | Events
The annual Christmas Theme train rides aboard Maine Eastern Railroad are scheduled, and tickets are now on sale.
The Kiwanis Jingle Bell EXPRESS which operates from Rockland to the North Pole, [Thomaston], will be Friday and Saturday, December 7th and 8th; while the Candy Cane Train to benefit Tri-County Literacy operates from Bath to the Winter Wonderland, [Wiscasset], on Saturday and Sunday, December 15th and 16th.
The Jingle Bell EXPRESS will run a total of five round trips, while the Candy Cane Train will run a total of eight round trips. In all cases, Santa will visit passengers on the train, and on-board activities will include sing-a-alongs; story-telling; and good family fun.
Maine Eastern Railroad has been operating Christmas Theme train rides in Rockland since 2005; and in Bath since 2006. The railroad has been recognized for providing one of the more scenic and lively Christmas train events in Maine, and was featured in the December 2011 issue of Kiwanis International magazine.
All of the rides are used as fundraisers. "The success of these events is the direct result of the volunteer effort of the organizations who charter these trips", said Gordon Page, vice president of Maine Eastern Railroad.
According to Page, the railroad provides the professional crew and equipment, while members of the Kiwanis Club of Rockland and supporters of Tri-County Literacy in Bath provide the volunteers and countless hours to prepare costumes, and to staff the trains and destinations with the appropriate characters for each event.
For the Kiwanis Jingle Bell EXPRESS, ticket prices are $18 per person through November 30; and increase to $20 per person on December 1.
Children under the age of two ride free.
For the Tri-County Literacy Candy Cane Train, ticket prices are $17 per person, regardless of age.
All tickets for all events are subject to a service fee.
