Pedestrian struck and killed in Warren | News
WARREN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Knox County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash Saturday night in which a pedestrian was struck by a car and killed while walking on Route 1 in Warren.
Police said the crash happened on Route 1 near Finntown Road just before 10 p.m. Saturday.
In a news release from the sheriff's office, Chief Deputy Tim Carroll said a 27-year-old man from Old Town was driving north on Route 1 when he suddenly saw something in the middle of the road. He attempted to swerve, but was unable to avoid striking a pedestrian.
Police said the pedestrian has been identified as 30-year-old Robert Hamilton from Warren. Hamilton was killed instantly in the crash.
Carroll said it's unknown why Hamilton was walking in the middle of the road, and there are no street lights on the portion of Route 1 where the accident happened.
The driver of the car has been identified as 27-year-old Kurt Olesch. Police said they don't believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, but Olesch was charged with operating after suspension for failure to pay fines.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Warren Fire and EMS and the Waldoboro Police Department.
The crash remains under investigation.
